SHOULD YOU HAVE WATER DURING OR SOON AFTER MEALS?

The different food items that we eat take their own unique periods to be digested in the stomach. A few examples of average periods of digestion are shown below:
Fruit meal            about 30 minutes
Starchy meal       about 2 hours
Meat meal           between 4-6 hours
Your stomach needs your help to do its work properly. In this regard take all the water you need long before each meal. Whatever quantities that you take, wait for about 30 minutes or even longer before a meal. The idea here is that water should never meet food in your throat or stomach and likewise, food should never meet water in the same channels. If you drink some water shortly before your meal or while you are eating or while the stomach is still digesting your food, this is most unhealthy due to the following reasons:
1. You would be diluting and therefore, weakening the chemical concentration of your saliva, various enzymes and other substances that help in changing the items you have eaten into a liquid paste or what is called the digestive process. Without the positive effects of these biochemical reactions you would gain less from your food.
2. You would be forcing  the contents of the stomach to be sent away too soon into your intestines. This would be happening before the food has properly been digested and turned into the right type of paste from which your body would derive the most nutrients.
3. You would be depriving your body of various nutrients that would now escape and become part of the faeces that would later be deposited in the toilet bowl.
4. Your subsequent craving for missing nutrients in your diet lifestyle is what translates into your frequent feeling of hunger, the related habit of almost instinctive overeating in the form of three meals a day, along with several snacks in between.
As stated before in this blog, the digestion of food demands lots of energy, as revealed by the semi-weak and sleepy feeling that follows meals, especially those that are heavy or biased toward meat, eggs, milk products and other animal sources. Therefore, if you have the wrong habit of drinking water during meals or soon thereafter, you waste lots of energy in producing more faeces than nutrients. Hence, you should allow the stomach total freedom and absolutely no disturbance for it to work effectively.
Of course, beyond a reasonable period after food has properly been digested by your stomach and its already in the intestines, you could could now take any amount of water that you wish.
