WHAT IS PEPTIC ULCER
Peptic ulcer refers to painful sores or ulcers in the lining of the stomach or first part of the small intestine, called the duodenum.
Types of peptic ulcer

In some cases, the pain may wake you up at night. Small peptic ulcers may not produce any symptoms in the early phases.Other common signs of a peptic ulcer include:
  • changes in appetite
  • nausea
  • bloody or dark stools (melena)
  • unexplained weight loss
  • vomiting
  • chest pain
  • bloating
  • heartburn

  • Complications
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding is the most common complication. Sudden large bleeding can be life-threatening. It occurs when the ulcer erodes one of the blood vessels.

  2. Gastric outlet obstruction from swelling or scarring that blocks the passageway leading from the stomach to the small intestine. The patient often presents with severe vomiting without bile.
