NATURAL REMEDIES FOR HYPERTENSION

Managing Hypertension
Blood pressure is the amount of pressure that is exerted on the arteries of the body as the blood circulates on the arteries of the body as the blood circulates round the system. The human body is so constituted that there must be a balance between the contraction of the left ventricle of the heart and the amount of blood pumped out into the aorta. When the pressure that the blood exerts on the blood vessels is consistently and abnormally high, it is called hypertension, when it is consistently and abnormally low, it is called hypotension.
The human blood pressure varies during the course of the day. The blood pressure goes up during physical exercise, or while doing serious brainwork or if one is excessively worried. The blood pressure is at its lowest during sleep. The only reliable way to measure the blood pressure is by using the sphygmomanometer. The best time to measure the blood pressure is in the morning, shortly after rising. A blood pressure of 135/70mmHg or 140/70mmHg is considered normal. A blood pressure of 140/90 is considered slightly high. A blood pressure of 150/90 or 150/100 is considered severe.
Causes
  • There are two types of hypertension, namely, Essential and Secondary hypertension.
  • Essential hypertension is that which has no apparent cause, it just occurs. This is the case in 80-90% hypertension cases.
  • Secondary hypertension is that caused by an underlying disease such as diabetes or kidney problems.
The following are some of the probable causes of hypertension.
Heredity
Opinions differ on the role of heredity in hypertension. From clinical observations, however, there is enough reason to conclude that hypertension runs in families. For example, in a family where both parents suffer from hypertension, there is a 60-80% possibility that one or two of their children will also develop the sickness. Some other opinions insist that what is inherited is the tendency towards the sickness, not the sickness itself.
Environment
We are products of our environments. Our dietary habits are conditioned by our social and cultural upbringing. Those brought up on high calorie diets are likely to develop hypertension. High intake of salt also leads to hypertension.
Mental Attitude
Negative attitudes to life, hatred, envy, anxiety, excessive worry, are unhealthy mental attitudes. Persons in these states of mind are prone to severe hypertension.
